Root Canal Treatment

Gentle, effective care to save and restore your natural tooth

Relieving Pain, Preserving Your Tooth

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, is used to save a tooth when the inner pulp (the nerve and blood supply) becomes infected or damaged. This can happen due to deep decay, a cracked tooth, trauma, or problems beneath an existing filling.

If left untreated, the infection can spread, causing pain, swelling, or the formation of an abscess. As the tooth no longer has a blood supply, the body cannot fight the infection on its own.

At Pewsey Dental Practice, our aim is always to preserve your natural tooth wherever possible. Root canal treatment allows us to remove the source of infection, clean the inside of the tooth, and seal it to prevent further problems — helping you avoid extraction and maintain your natural smile.

Root Canal Treatment

When Root Canal Treatment is Needed

This treatment may be recommended if:

A tooth becomes infected or inflamed

You experience persistent pain or sensitivity

There is deep decay or damage beneath a filling

Swelling, abscess, or tenderness develops

Early treatment helps prevent the spread of infection and protects the surrounding bone and tissues.

Care Designed for Comfort and Precision

Root canal treatment is carefully carried out using modern techniques to ensure effective and comfortable care:

01

Thorough assessment, including X-rays if required

02

Removal of infected pulp from within the tooth

03

Cleaning and shaping of the root canals

04

Sealing the tooth to prevent reinfection

In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed to control infection. A referral may be considered for complex cases and crown may also be recommended after treatment to strengthen and protect the tooth.

Caring for Your Tooth After Treatment

Following treatment, mild sensitivity may occur initially and usually settles within a few days.

To support healing and long-term success:

Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until fully restored

Maintain good oral hygiene

Attend regular dental check-ups

With proper care, a treated tooth can function normally for many years.
